Trowbridge man sentenced to 12 weeks in prison for shoplifting offences

A Trowbridge man has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison for shoplifting offences.

Simon Parker, 40, of no fixed address, was sentenced on Tuesday (10/09) at Swindon Magistrates Court for two counts of theft by shoplifting, possession of Class A drugs and assault.

It follows incidents between September 2 and September 10 in which he stole items and pushed a sales assistant.

He was also given a Criminal Behaviour Order which includes not being able to enter a number of shops in the town.

Sgt Charly Chilton said: "We know that crimes such as shoplifting are a big problem for our retail and business communities. It causes significant financial impact and often can be linked to organised criminality and wider anti-social behaviour issues.

"We believe that shoplifting is an area which is significantly under-reported by retailers and by members of the public and I want to reassure our communities that we will take reports seriously and take action."
