A man has been arrested after drugs and knives were seized from a car stopped in Swindon.

Officers stopped a silver Vauxhall Astra on Cricklade Road at around 9.45am today (6/8/19) after the driver reacted suspiciously when he noticed police nearby.

They searched the vehicle and found a number of packets white powder, believed to be cocaine, as well as a collection of knives.

A 27-year-old man from Swindon has been arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs, possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station.

PC Luke Hobbs, from Swindon North Community Policing Team, said: "We are committed to cracking down on drug dealing in Swindon and taking action about the associated violence that comes with this type of illegal activity."

His colleague PC Sam Bridgeman added: "Today’s seizure has not only stopped these Class A drugs reaching the streets, but has also removed dangerous weapons from our communities."
