Op Sceptre - Man arrested after weapons found

Alert message sent 17/09/2019 13:13:00

Information sent on behalf of Wiltshire Police

A knife and knuckle duster have been seized following the arrest of a 19-year-old Swindon man during our Op Sceptre knife awareness campaign and amnesty.

Officers were called to reports of a disturbance in Faringdon Park, Swindon just before midnight yesterday (16/09); while conducting a search of the area they noticed a male acting suspiciously and run off.

He was stopped and searched and a large hunting knife and knuckle duster were discovered; he was arrested on suspicion of having a bladed article and an offensive weapon.

The man was taken in to custody at Gablecross police station where an amount of cannabis was then found on his person.  He was further arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis.

He is still currently in custody.

Sgt David Tippetts said:  "Thanks to the good work of these officers last night there's one less knife and dangerous weapon out there to cause harm.
"By getting knives and other weapons off our streets under such campaigns like Op Sceptre then that's one part of the criminal cycle broken.
"It's also the same when we seize drugs - it disrupts criminals and their crimes."

Op Sceptre is a national knife crime prevention initiative bringing together police forces co-ordinating ways to tackle knife crime.

Wiltshire Police will also be running an amnesty alongside the operation where we will be appealing for people to hand in unwanted or illegal knives and bladed weapons.  The amnesty runs from Monday 16 - Sunday 29 September 2019.

Special amnesty bins are available at 13 locations across the county.  They are:
