Alert message sent 24/12/2019 18:08:00

Information sent on behalf of Wiltshire Police

A man who died following a collision in Salisbury has been named as Ronald Jones (90) from the city.

At approximately 5pm on Saturday 21 December, we were called by ambulance following a collision on Wilton Road between a Volkswagen Golf and a pedestrian.

Officers and ambulance colleagues attended, but sadly the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time who are being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer.

Nobody else was injured in the collision.

A road closure was put in place at St Paul’s roundabout while the incident was dealt with – this was lifted at approximately 10.55pm.

No arrests have been made at this time.

We can confirm the driver is a Wiltshire Police officer who was off duty at the time. As a result, the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who was in the area and may have dash cam footage of the incident, should call 101 and quote log number 284 of Saturday December 21.
