Enquiries continue into Christmas Day murder in Devizes

Enquiries continue into the death of a woman in her 80s, who was found deceased on Christmas Day in Devizes.

Officers responded to reports of a serious assault at 8.10am on Thursday inside a flat in Keepers Road. Police attended with our colleagues from the South Western Ambulance Service. Sadly, despite their best efforts, the victim was declared dead at the scene.

A 63-year-old woman, who is known to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of murder. She is now in custody for questioning.

We are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.

Formal identification is yet to take place. A preliminary postmortem has been carried out and her death is being treated as murder. Further information is needed to establish the cause of death.

A cordon set up at the address is still in place while a full investigation is carried out.
