Wiltshire remains one of the safest places in the country despite rise in recorded crime

Wiltshire continues to have one of the lowest crime rates in England and remains the safest force area in the South West, according to the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) crime rate data published this week. 

The figures show that Wiltshire recorded 56.09 crimes per 1,000 population for year ending March 2026, significantly below both the national average for England of 83.45 and the South West average of 73.49 for the same time period. 

While the data shows an overall increase in recorded crime compared to the previous year, Wiltshire's crime rate remains substantially lower than both the regional and national averages, reflecting the continued efforts of officers, staff, volunteers and partner agencies working to keep communities safe.
