Crime prevention advice - crop circles

Alert message sent 14/07/2017 09:38:00

Information sent on behalf of Wiltshire Police

Following a post last week about crop circles, we would like to clarify some of the crime prevention advice.

If a crop circle has appeared on your land without permission, this is criminal damage and can be reported to Wiltshire Police via 101. If you witness someone making the circle this can be reported via 999 as a crime in progress.

If you do not wish to have visitors to the crop circle, you can cut out the circle or register that no permission has been given on the following webpages:

1.https://goo.gl/i23XqT
2. https://goo.gl/yYizGJ
3. https://goo.gl/aGm9cs

We are also aware that there is an organisation that facilitates controlled entry to crop circles by working with farmers and landowners, they can be contacted via https://goo.gl/Knr3oR
This is a legitimate group working to help raise money for local charities and consists of volunteers. They are currently working at the circle near to Hackpen Hill in Wiltshire.

However, we have had instants of bogus persons at crop circles claiming to be landowners or representing charities in order to take money from people, so please be aware.

Please also be aware that at this time of year we see an increase of thefts from motor vehicles at beauty spots around the county, so if visiting a crop circle DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES ON DISPLAY.

If you are visiting a crop circle, please check that permission has been given to enter the land and circle, not all landowners welcome the circles or visitors. If you are using a drone ensure you are operating within the drone codehttp://dronesafe.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Dronecode.pdf)
