Useful advice if you are in danger and need police help

Alert message sent 22/05/2019 18:48:00

Information sent on behalf of Wiltshire Police

Dear residents,

We have some useful advice for you. If you should ever find yourself in an emergency and you need our help, but the situation you are in means you are unable to ask for the police - always remember the number 55.

This is how it works:
* Dial 999
* Listen to the instructions from the operator
* Respond by coughing or tapping the handset
* If prompted, press 55 so we know it is a genuine emergency and your call will be put through to the police.

This doesn't automatically mean we are able to trace your location and further information may be required. Call handlers will try to communicate with yes or no questions where possible.

This information could be really useful to many people, including those in abusive relationships who are trying to escape.

Thank you.
