Op Sceptre - drugs and knife seized

Alert message sent 25/09/2019 16:30:00

Information sent on behalf of Wiltshire Police

A Swindon teenager has been arrested as part of our knife crime awareness campaign and amnesty - Op Sceptre.

Plain clothed and uniformed officers were on patrol in the Eldene area of the town today (25/09) when they spotted a group of youths acting suspiciously; when approached one male ran off dropping a knife in the process - another male was stopped and searched.

Thirty individual wraps of cannabis were found on his person; a further search at his home address recovered another 50 wraps of cannabis with a total street value of £1300.

A 16-year-old local boy was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station in Swindon.

The teenager - believed to be a 15-year-old boy - who dropped the knife is still outstanding.

Sgt David Tippetts said:  "Today's result is a good one.
"We recognise that drugs and knife crime can go hand in hand and taking this amount of cannabis plus another dangerous weapon off the streets of Swindon is a positive move.
"As part of our Op Sceptre campaign, it means one less knife is now out there that could potentially kill or maim.  Also, we've managed to disrupt a drug supply which can inevitably destroy lives and affect communities."
