Information sent on behalf of Wiltshire Police

A man has been sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of indecently assaulting a young girl in Calne more than 30 years ago.

David Alan Anderson, 66, who now lives in Auckland, New Zealand, was sentenced today (31/10) at Swindon Crown Court.

The offence was committed in Calne in 1988 when the victim was under the age of 16.

Anderson was found guilty following a trial at Swindon Crown Court in September this year.

Det Con Simon Rogers said: “I welcome today's sentencing as it shows the severity of this man's actions.
"Anderson spent a large part of his life without facing justice for what he did and I am pleased that he has now been punished for what is a despicable crime.
"Again, I want to thank the victim for her bravery in coming forward and reporting this incident in the first place.
"It was not until approximately 30 years after this incident took place that she felt confident in being able to report this to police.  It must have been a massive burden to carry for such a long time and she has shown great courage in coming forward and supporting the investigation.
"I hope today will now bring her some closure so she is able to move on with her life.
" I also hope this sends a message to others in the same position that regardless of how long ago an offence took place, you should report it, you will be listened to and you will be supported.”

To report sexual abuse please phone police on 101 or, if you wish to remain anonymous, via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Victims can also seek support and counselling from the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) based at the New Swindon Sanctuary - they can be contacted on the 24-hour helpline 0808 168 0024.
