This is an alert from Wiltshire Police providing an update on the latest incidents across the Wiltshire & Swindon affecting the rural community from 02/12/19 - 17/12/19


Hare Coursing

At the beginning of December a targeted operation to tackle hare coursing in the rural Wiltshire East area had a positive outcome. A vehicle with two males and their dogs were seen, located and arrested. As shown below in the latest incidents, there are a lot of reports relating to hare coursers in the rural villages around Marlborough and Pewsey. Please continue to report all potential sightings of hare coursing across the county, so any patterns can be identified which will help to inform the future planned operations against this rural crime.

Unknown suspect/s have entered the stables via the open gate and stolen a horse box which was parked at the stables overnight.  The value of the horse box is unknown.  Make and Model: Ifor Williams HBX511; red top section with small blue oval stickers and silver writing.

A dropside van was being driven suspiciously around the location, persons from the vehicle were looking in sheds.

Unknown suspect/s have entered onto private farmland then have stolen 2 Electric fence panels from the sheep field TVO £250.00 each.

Two dead hares have been found on a farm. These are believed to be linked to the Hare Coursing that has been taking place in the area.

Unknown suspect/s have smashed a vehicle against a gate at the entrance to the farmyard, breaking the hinges which now prevent the gate from properly closing. They have then driven across farmland causing temporary damage in what appears to be deer or hare coursing.

Unknown suspects have driven a van onto a farmyard, stopped and the passenger got out and picked something up and stole it. He then got back in the van and both suspects drove off at speed. Believed they likely took a battery, from where they stopped.

Unknown suspect/s have seen to be hare coursing and have broken two locks in order to be able to get onto the fields.

Unknown suspect/s have broken into farm buildings and stolen items contained inside. The farm was entered via fencing which was broken and removed, which left cattle loose to wander away. The farm buildings were entered and tractor batteries and a pressure washer were stolen.

Three unknown males have cut the lock to a farm, have driven onto the land and left again within four minutes. No items taken.

A green Shogun was located on farm land at Collingbourne Ducis. The vehicle was driving across the fields, having managed to navigate the anti poaching ditches.
There was a similar vehicle reported on fields at Pewsey about 30 mins prior, which was likely to be the same vehicle.

Unknown suspect has driven through a field, suspected to be hare coursing, whilst leaving the field at speed, the driver has caused minor damage to the fence.

Four 4x4 vehicles seen racing across private farm land. No damage. Reporting person was uncertain whether hare coursers, as no dogs sighted, or people messing around in 4x4's.

Two vehicles have been sighted believed to be involved in hare coursing. Six unknown suspects have been seen with the vehicles with dogs.

Unknown suspect/s have entered farm yard and cut the padlock to a storage container. They have stolen the quad bike that was inside. The quad bike was pushed across the field and through a fence onto the main road.
Stolen: Yamaha 700 Grisley Quad Bike value approx. £6,000

A dog has got into the field and attacked several sheep, the farmer has chased him off. It has worried several sheep and lambs and one has injuries; 2 scratches on its rear, a chewed ear and deep puncture marks to the left shoulder and a lot of missing wool.

Unknown person/s have moved Harris fencing aside, which was secured but undone with a spanner.  Have removed 2 x 20 Yard skips which would have had to use a skip lorry to remove them. One had rubbish, tipped out and the other had spare Fencing which was taken.

Unknown suspect/s have broken through a gate to gain access to the yard, they have then cut a padlock on a lock up and stolen:
1x trials bike M2R racing KM123 red 86CM to the value of £800 2x Motorbike helmets value known
1x pair of gloves value unknown

Blue Nissan and Black VW sighted with 6 males and lurcher type dogs sighted, believed to have been hare coursing in the rural area.

A gold coloured Vauxhall Vectra, with 3 males and lurcher type dogs in the back, was seen driving along a farm track
 The vehicle had 3 x males and lurcher type dogs in the back. Upon seeing staff at the farm in Coate, the vehicle turned around and left the farm. It was then seen several more times in the Horton and Allington areas, driving along tracks and the main roads slowly. Occupants appeared to be checking gateways and field entrances. It is suspected the persons were scoping area for hare coursing.

Unknown suspect/s have gained entry into a yard and stolen a caravan which was stored there. The caravan was locked with a hitchlock.

Unknown suspect/s have gained entry through a locked gate to the farm by appearing to have used an angle grinder. They've entered the yard and forced entry into the tool store, again an angle grinder believed to have been used to cut the padlock on the door. They have then gone to a container within the yard and used the angle grinder to remove the locking bar.  Power tools stolen from both locations.
Stolen: Husqvarna Chain saws x 2; Hedge cutter x1; Portable Compressor. Possible other things not noted at the time of report.

Unknown suspect/s have been driving a dark blue Jeep Cherokee in a field, believed to be looking for hares.

Unknown male has attended the  farm and has asked if a parcel was delivered their by mistake. There was no parcel and upon leaving, the male walked around the farm and took photographs of the premises.
