Information sent on behalf of Wiltshire Police

Good afternoon everyone.  Please find attached crime update, police appeals and warnings for the week 26th February to 4th March 2020.

We’re appealing for witnesses after a girl was assaulted in Trowbridge.

The incident happened just after 7pm on Monday 2 March.

A 13-year-old girl was walking with a friend over the footbridge between Sparrow Street and Drynham Road, when she was approached by a man who made inappropriate comments before holding her hand and pushing himself against her.  The girl’s friend helped push the man away and he walked off in the direction of the Dursley Arms in Drynham Road.

The suspect is described as white, aged in his 40s, of slim build and around 5 ft 8 inches tall.  He had short brown hair and was wearing a blue coat, black jogging bottoms and was carrying a green rucksack.

Det Sgt Neil Le’Maire said: “During this incident, the victim wasn’t injured but was left understandably shaken up as she did not know the man and did not know what his intentions were.

“We are conducting a number of enquiries in relation to this incident including obtaining any relevant CCTV footage from the local area – we are keen to hear from anyone who may know this man or anyone who was in the area at the time who could help with our investigation.”

Call 101 and quote crime reference number 54200022049.  Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Appeal to find Good Samaritan after girl assaulted in Trowbridge park

We are trying to trace a Good Samaritan who intervened after a girl was assaulted in Trowbridge park yesterday (02/03).

It happened between 4.30pm and 5pm when a 12-year-old girl was walking out of the park, through the alleyway towards Magnet Kitchens on Polebarn Road.  She was assaulted by a group of three boys who were entering the park.  A male passer-by intervened and walked with the girl away from the scene to ensure she was safe.  She wasn’t seriously injured but was left shaken by what happened.

Det Con Karen Haddrell, from Central CID, said: “We would like to hear from any witnesses who could assist our enquiries, particularly the boy or man who intervened and assisted the girl.

“Any incident which involves violence of this kind will understandably be concerning for the local community. However, I want to reassure you that this type of incident is rare and we will be putting on increased patrols in the town as a precautionary measure.”

We are aware of reports of a group of boys being involved in anti-social behaviour in Trowbridge park over the weekend and we are carrying out detailed enquiries, including looking at CCTV.

If you can help please call Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting crime reference 54200022014. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

The Community Policing Team are assisting with enquiries into both the above offences, including house-to-house and reassurance patrols of the areas concerned.

Please do contact us if you have any information relating to either offence; both are clearly very upsetting for the victims and we all need to do everything we can to help.
