Information sent on behalf of Wiltshire Police

We're appealing for witnesses to the theft of a push-bike in Swindon's Old Town.

At approximately 3.40pm on Saturday 18 April, a woman and her partner parked their bicycles outside the Co-op's entrance, on the car park side of the building, on Newport Street.

A man on a child's scooter then arrived and attempted to steal one of the bikes but was challenged by the victim; during this altercation the male managed to take the second bike and made off along Newport Street towards Devizes Road.

Another male, queuing to go in the shop, gave chase but was unsuccessful in detaining the thief.

The stolen bright green mountain bike has since been recovered by the victim.

On Tuesday 21 April, a 21-year-old Swindon man was arrested on suspicion of the theft and has since been released under investigation.

PC Grant Hesketh said:  "We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen this incident or the distinctive coloured bike being taken and ridden off.
"We'd also like to speak to the member of the public who kindly gave chase to try and detain the suspect.
"If you can help in anyway, please contact us on 101 quoting crime reference number 54200036954."

If you wish to report anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
