ADVICE TO PEOPLE FOR VE DAY FRIDAY 8TH MAY

Alert message sent 07/05/2020 16:38:00

Information sent on behalf of Wiltshire Police

Tommy the soldier is the new inhabitant of the Market Place in Melksham. The work of Melksham Town Council.

This Friday is VE Day and the Local Resilience Forum is issuing advice and encouragement to the public to celebrate at home, with members of their household, rather than attending street parties or other celebrations.

Our key messages to the public are:

The Wiltshire and Swindon Local Resilience Forum ask that you celebrate VE day within your own home.

Large scale public events, including street parties, are not permitted and applications for street closures have not been granted by local authorities because of the risk of spreading the virus. This is decision supported fully by Wiltshire Police.

Please do not be tempted to visit relatives, friends or take part in gatherings to mark the occasions – we all need to continue to follow the Government’s social distancing measures and the regulations that have been put in place.

The Royal British Legion has urged people to celebrate from their homes and they will be holding a number of virtual activities that we can all participate in throughout the day.

We want everyone to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day safely over the upcoming bank holiday weekend, but we must all continue to observe the Government advice.

Stay home, protect the NHS and save lives

Thankyou!
