Update for Trowbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Good afternoon all, please find update from your local policing team.

This week has seen a steady increase in crimes and incidents, a sure sign of the Covid-19 restrictions being eased and life returning closer to normal.

This week we have seized two e-scooters that have been used on the public roads, despite previous advice with regard to the need to have insurance.  We are aware of the popularity of these new devices, however, the law is clear: you must only ride these on private land with the landowner's permission, as the law currently classes them as a mechanically propelled vehicle.  This law is currently under review and their classification may change, but until that time people must abide by the law or risk them being seized.

Now the warmer weather appears to be with us for the foreseeable time, please remember to secure your belongings and houses.  Bikes are very vulnerable, so please do not leave them insecure, even for a short time: thieves will strike the moment your attention is elsewhere.  Similary, do not leave downstairs windows open overnight and remain alert during the day if your front door is unlocked and you are in the garden.

Finally, the Bank Holiday promises to bring further nice weather, but please bear in mind the Covid-19 restrictions that are still in place and maintain social distancing and appropriate use of public spaces.  At the moment the virus seems to have reached a plateau and case numbers in our area remain low, but this is only as a result of our hard work and sacrifices so far.

Please all take care of one another.

PC 1970 Sam Withey and PC 2342 Helen DAVERIDGE.
