Calne police crime and incident update for W/c 25/05/2020


1/ On 16/05/2020 at 11:10hrs, a red Audi A3 was stopped in Curzon Street, Calne due to a defective number plate and a poor standard of driving.

Upon officers conferring with the driver a strong smell of cannabis was coming from within the vehicle. A 29 year old local male from Calne was found in possession of small amount of cannabis.

The male was issued with a Cannabis street warning for being found to be in possession of a class B drug.



2/ On 17/05/2020 at 18:55hrs, officers stopped blue BMW on Stanley Lane, near to Calne. The driver, a male in his 40’s was asked to complete a roadside drug wipe. The drug wipe tested positive for cannabis.

The male was arrested and taken to Melksham custody where a blood sample was taken which will be sent off for examination. The male was release under investigation to allow for further enquiries to be completed.



3/ On 20/05/2020 at 16:50hrs, a green BMW was stopped by officers on the A4 in Quemerford, Calne for showing no insurance.

The driver was reported for the offence of driving with no insurance. The DVLA were notified of the vehicle being driven with no tax, as this had also expired.

The vehicle was then seized under section 165 Road Traffic Act.



4/ Witness appeal: Road traffic collision.

This happened on 22/05/2020 09:53hrs on the A3102 Beversbrook Road, Calne

Two vehicles collided which has caused one of them to hit a road worker. The male involved has sustained potentially life changing injuries.

5/ On 22/05/2020 at 14:34hrs, a silver BMW was stopped by officers on the A342 in Sandy Lane, near Calne for showing no insurance.

The driver was reported for the offence of driving with no insurance.

The vehicle was then seized under section 165 Road Traffic Act.



6/ Witness appeal: Anti-social Behaviour

This happened on 23/05/2020 at 16:28hrs near The Wharf, Patford Street, Calne.

An unknown female has been reported as shouting and threatening a male with a large stick. During this altercation the female has also attempted to set her Staffie type dog on him.

The female was described as – a white , approx. 40 years in age, dark hair with a block fringe. At the time she was wearing – a blue zipped up top with the words “OUCT SKI TEAM and Littlewoods.com” on.

CCTV is being reviewed in this location and the wider areas.
