Information sent on behalf of Wiltshire Police

Officers in Trowbridge have been carrying out checks on traffic coming in and out of the town as a part of a nationwide operation targeting organised criminal gangs.

Yesterday (10/06),  the neighbourhood team supported by the Crime Targeting Team and Specialist Operations ran an operation called Project Optimise.

Uniformed and plain clothed officers monitored vehicles travelling into and out of Trowbridge between 10am and 2pm.  One car was stopped and searched - the driver, a local man in his 30s, who was travelling alone, was questioned at the roadside.

No arrests were made during the operation.

Sgt Leighton Williams said: "Project Optimise is an ongoing national police initiative to disrupt Organised Criminal Groups (OCG).
"We have no specific issues here in Trowbridge, but organised crime is a national problem and needs to be tackled by every force at a local level in order to disrupt this type of criminality at every stage and opportunity.
"Yesterday's intelligence led operation was not only set up to tackle those involved in the most serious of crimes but also to develop what is known about the individuals, their vehicles and their movements.
"We would ask anyone living in the local community, if you see anything suspicious or have information you wish to share, please make contact with your local neighbourhood officers via 101 or the Wiltshire Police website."
