A prolific burglar who was wanted by police for some time has been jailed for almost two years.

George Mullard, who is 24-years-old today, from Stockwood Road, Chippenham was sentenced to 20 months in prison at Swindon Crown Court today (07/07).

In September last year (2019), Mullard attempted to break-in to a property on Avonmead, Swindon.  While climbing through a conservatory window he noticed a CCTV camera inside and climbed back out immediately before running off.

Mullard, who has previous convictions for burglary, managed to evade police for almost eight months before being arrested on 13 May 2020.

Det Con Jared Yalden said: "Despite this man evading arrest for a number of months, our persistent policing which involved numerous enquiries, public appeals and a thorough investigation led us to eventually catching him.
"This case shows that we take all burglaries seriously and will continue to work hard to find those involved.  Basically our message is: if you do the crime, we will find you.
"I welcome today's result and hope it can now give his victims some closure on what is an unsettling crime."

Wiltshire and Swindon's Police and Crime Commissioner Angus Macpherson said: “This is a good result and hopefully will give the victims of this particular break-in some comfort that this man is now off the streets of Wiltshire and Swindon.
“I also, applaud the officers at Wiltshire Police for their hard work and tenacity in eventually finding this person and putting him before the courts to get a just sentence.
“Burglary is a not a victimless crime, it is one of the most invasive things that can happen to an individual because the normal sanctuary of one’s home has been affected.
“I also believe that the additional officers who have recently joined our Community Policing Teams, as well as those who have just commenced their training, will help ensure that, over time, more criminals are brought to justice.”
