Officer assaulted during incident in north Swindon

Alert message sent 23/07/2020 12:42:00

Information sent on behalf of Wiltshire Police

One of our officers was assaulted while attending an incident in Swindon early this morning (23/07).

Officers were called to Renoir Close at around 1am following a report of a disorder at a property.

A teenage girl present was asked to accompany officers back to her current home address but refused and then became aggressive towards them, kicking a male officer three times in the leg.

A 17-year-old female was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station.

The officer received minor injuries and was able to continue his work on duty.

Insp David Tippetts said: “The officers were called to try and help keep this person safe and take them home.
"Luckily, the officer was not seriously injured, but it could have been more serious.
"This sort of behaviour towards our officers is unacceptable.  They should not have to be subjected to this kind of abuse as they go about their duties to keep the general public safe.”
