There are several outcomes that the Home Office have implanted over the years to conclude a criminal investigation, one of which is classified as undetected. This does not mean that the crime disappears, it simply means that there are no further lines of enquiry to pursue, and still remains an undetected crime in the police system. It should be noted that if new information were to come to light, then the investigation can be reopened accordingly.

In essence, when a crime is undetected, it means that the investigation is complete with no suspect(s) Identified.  This can include descriptions of suspects who have not been identified during the investigation.  Please rest assured that the crime was investigated as far as reasonable possible, but the case has to be closed pending further investigative opportunities becoming available.

Therefore, if any further information comes to light, then please let the police know by calling 101 and quoting the reference number, and the matter will be looked into.

Please note replies to this message are not monitored 24/7. If you want to offer information on any of the above or report a crime or incident this must be reported via 101. You can also visit the Wiltshire Police website and select ‘Report’ to report non-emergency incidents.
