Information sent on behalf of Wiltshire Police

We are looking for people to join our Diverse Communities Independent Advisory Group (IAG), which has a particular focus on diversity and the protected characteristics covered by the Equality Act 2000.

We would like to hear from people from across Wiltshire and Swindon of all ages and career/life experiences, but in particular people from Trowbridge, Westbury, Warminster, and young people who would be interested in sharing their views.

Abdul Amin Chair of the Diverse Communities IAG said: “Over the past year, we have been supporting Wiltshire Police in order to facilitate a better understanding of the different needs of the various communities that make up our county. Specifically as members, we are very interested in the way in which policing is done in our communities to tackle discriminatory crimes such as hate crime - especially including crimes that are motivated by prejudice on the part of perpetrators against any particular race or religion. We also monitor the way in which stop-and-search practices are carried out at county lines.

“Another way in which we help Wiltshire Police is by searching for potential recruitments. We especially encourage a broad range of people from all of our communities to join in order for the police force to become more diverse. We are accepting of all members from all of our diverse communities in joining the workforce and representing their respective communities in the fight against crime.

“Recounting my own time in the IAG, I can confidently say that volunteering for the IAG is an incredibly rewarding experience that anyone from any and all backgrounds should certainly have. We are looking for members from the towns of Wiltshire such as Trowbridge, Westbury, Warminster, other surrounding towns, and the city of Salisbury to take up voluntary positions within the IAG in particular.

“Personally, I would love to see more representation within the IAG from the younger generations of the county from all backgrounds. I would heavily encourage young people to come forward and become ambassadors for their communities.”
