News and Updates from Rural Crime Team:

There has been an increase in the theft of GPS devices from tractors, both within Wiltshire and regionally, and that we are working with the National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service, our own Op. Fortitude team and surrounding forces to identify and target the offenders. We ask people to be alive to ‘hostile reconnaissance’ carried out by the offenders as it is unlikely that the units are found in isolated rural locations by chance. Can we also remind farm staff to remove the units from the cabs of the tractors when they are finished at the end of the day, in and of itself this could reduce the incidence of theft and if it were to become known by groups of offenders would in all likelihood make Wiltshire a less attractive target.

The hare coursing season is about to get into full swing again and the Rural Crime Team will be working hard to make Wiltshire a hostile environment for the offenders to carry out their illegal activities through intelligence led patrols and organised operations targeting known hotspots.   The Rural Crime Team carried out a large anti – poaching operation with, Warminster and Amesbury community police teams, specials, the Ministry of Defence Police and MOD range wardens on Friday evening (03/09) – we were joined by the PCC and DCC Paul Mills who met with members of the rural community who were able to voice their worries and concerns.
