KEEPING YOU SAVE THIS CHRISTMAS
Officers and PCSOs from the Warminster Area Community Policing Team will be carrying out additional patrols of town centres during the build up to Christmas.
The local team have plans for proactive, visible policing patrols in Warminster, Westbury and Mere to provide reassurance for the public but also crackdown on shoplifting, anti-social behaviour and vehicle crime.
“Operation Elf” will also see plain-clothes officers out and about to identify and apprehend potential offenders. There will also be additional patrols in more rural areas to tackle burglary and rural crime.
Officers will also be engaging with members of the public around the ongoing Covid-19 guidance and rules on face coverings.
Sergeant Vicky Howick said the team would be working with local businesses and CCTV operators throughout December to prevent and detect crime.
She said: “We know that over the coming weeks we are going to see an increase in people shopping in our town centres and we want to make sure we’re on the front-foot to prevent crime and keep people safe.
“Our intelligence tells us that this time of year sees an increase in offences such as shoplifting, handbag or purse thefts, theft from vehicles and anti-social behaviour, so we want to reassure our communities that we will be taking action.
“We will also be using the opportunity to issue crime prevention advice, so people can understand what small steps they can take to keep their belongings or vehicles safe.
“Christmas is such a special time of year, and should be a happy and joyous occasion, so we will do all we can to ensure that isn’t ruined by the small minority looking to take advantage.”
Over the coming weeks we will be posting crime prevention advice on our social media pages, but you can also find more information by visiting our website: https://crowd.in/gCi5mZ
